We are constantly talking to clients about why they should photograph their family now instead of waiting for the "Perfect Time". In 2018 we shared a blog post with several reasons why NOW is always the best time to photograph your family. (Click here to read that blog post.) While those reasons are still true today, 2020 has created a different set of challenges when deciding if 'now' is a good time to be photographed.
The reality is that school is only 6-8 weeks away and it is ALWAYS a busy time for families. While pushing it off may seem like a good idea the reality is that things will only get busier, especially with all the unknowns we might deal with for the remainder of this year.
Here is why we would encourage you to take time to photograph your family this summer:
1. Vacations have been put on hold.
We imagine for many of you vacations have either been postponed or put on hold for the time being. Normally the summer is a whirlwind of camps and trips before school begins. However, this year has given us the gift of time. More time together. More time at home. The perfect time to schedule a sitting when you have less on your schedule to work around.
2. Family dynamics change.
This is always true but especially important now. Family dynamics can change for a variety of reasons. Each year brings new changes both good and bad. Don't hold off for the 'perfect' time. The 'perfect' time doesn't exist. Instead capture this moment in time so it can be remembered forever.
3. The simple things mean the most.
In chaotic times (like the one we are experiencing now) it is important for our children to feel safe and have a sense of control. Children enjoy seeing themselves with their family. It boosts their self-confidence and sense of belonging. Hanging a portrait in your home will remind them every day how loved and cherished they are. It's something so simple to do and more important than ever.
4. Things will only get busier.
Every year we hear it - "we are just too busy". It might feel like you are too busy to take the time to photograph your family, but the reality of it is that it will only get busier. As things reopen and we all get back to a more normal routine you will only be adding more things to your schedule. We are also very efficient and we only need 45 minutes of your family's time to do a sitting.
5. Add something positive
This year will be one we remember for the rest of our lives and we are all experiencing these challenges in different ways. Taking the time to photograph your family is a great way to add a positive experience and memory to this crazy year.
